Here is a simple way of extracting a repeating pattern images from a .PAT pattern set. You may want to do this in order to edit the colours or reduce the size of a pattern, or to use the tile as a repeating web background.
Open up Photoshop, select the fill tool. Be sure it is set to Fill: Pattern
Click the drop down arrow to open the pattern picker
Hover your mouse over the pattern you want to extract. The dimensions of the pattern repeat will appear

Make a new image with those dimensions (width then height)
Use the Fill tool to fill the image with your chosen pattern
And thats it. Save it, and you have a usable tile of the repeat pattern. You can now edit the colours, use as a repeating web background, or take into another program.
